    Intellectual Property, Technology & Litigation

Ritik Yadav is an intellectual property and technology lawyer who works at the point where innovation meets regulation. He advises startups, creators and technology-driven businesses on protecting, commercialising and defending their intellectual assets, with a particular focus on trademarks, copyright, digital content and the emerging legal questions raised by artificial intelligence.

A BA LL.B. (Hons.) graduate of the National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, Ritik built his practice from the ground up in IP. As Chair of IPR at NUSRL, he led trademark filings for early-stage startups, giving founders practical, hands-on support in securing their brands. He is also an active legal researcher, with papers published in international journals across intellectual property, artificial intelligence, competition law and technology regulation, including co-authored work on AI and competition law and on copyright in AI-generated content. His research is catalogued in the library collections of Stanford University and Harvard University. He also drafted a 70-section model legislation, The Deepfake Regulation and Digital Identity Protection Bill, 2026, addressing synthetic media, identity misuse and platform accountability.

For the past three years, Ritik has also worked with international clients through Upwork, completing a wide range of legal research, drafting and advisory assignments for businesses and individuals outside India. This work has given him hands-on experience serving clients across different jurisdictions, time zones and business cultures, and has shaped the responsive, deadline-driven and client-focused approach he brings to Halverton & Co.

Alongside his advisory work, Ritik maintains an active litigation practice before the District Courts at Ranchi and Ramgarh and the Jharkhand High Court. He handles civil, criminal and tax matters, cheque dishonour cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act, and a range of other disputes. His courtroom foundation runs deep: he served as a Judicial Assistant at the Ranchi District Court and trained in the chambers of practitioners before the Jharkhand High Court and the Supreme Court of India, as well as at the Court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class. This experience gives him a clear view of how disputes actually unfold, and of how sound drafting and early advice can prevent them.

Beyond his practice, Ritik is the founder of Vidhi Chetna, an NGO providing legal aid to victims of cyber fraud in Jharkhand. That work keeps him close to the real-world impact of technology misuse, from online scams to digital identity abuse. Rooted in Jharkhand’s indigenous heritage, he also has a deep interest in traditional knowledge, tribal cultural expressions and Geographical Indications, and in how IP law can protect communities as well as companies. His entrepreneurial and legal-aid work has been featured in The Business Stories.

As co-founder of Halverton & Co., Ritik leads the firm’s IP, technology and litigation practice. He helps businesses build and safeguard brand value, handle content and licensing issues, prepare for the regulation of AI, and resolve disputes when they reach court.
